Learn to Row at Overpeck Lake
Learn to Row at Overpeck Lake with Oksana Tsimbalova (Head Coach) and certified coaches River Rowing Association (Nyack N.Y.). Over a course of five days they will provide athletes ages 12-18 the opportunity to learn the basics of rowing. Athletes are welcome to sign up for one, two or more sessions scheduled through out the summer. The goal is to provide a safe and fun environment where novices can learn about the basics of rowing.
Participates will learn the basic rowing terminology, how to use the rowing equipment, safety rules and precautions, as well as the fundamentals of the rowing stroke and boat mechanics. The coach determines when the boat is ready to go on the water. The first hour or two of each session is usually spent on land reviewing equipment and practicing technique.
Good attendance is crucial to safety and maximum learning. Rowers must attend all classes, and are encouraged to choose another term if they cannot commit to a minimum of 80% class attendance overall. Successful completion of this program is a prerequisite for entry into the novice and competitive junior programs for grades 7th through 12th grades.
