New York Rowing is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the benefits of rowing to young people. Boys and girls on our composite team come from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds for the unique opportunity to row together in our year round athletic program. At New York Rowing we believe that the sport of rowing can be a powerful tool for building self-confidence, character, and a solid path to pursuing higher education. Our Junior Rowing Program has an outstanding track record of helping highly motivated student rowers get into the college of their choice. Over the past several years we have also helped our student athletes garner over $3 million in scholarship money. Row to School Scholarships are available only to 4 year college bound students in the 8th or 9th grades. We are seeking to identify 20 boys and 20 girls who are qualified recipients.
A Row to School Scholarship is awarded based upon several criteria including athletic ability, academic achievement and financial need. Recipients of the Row To School Scholarships receive free coaching, fitness training, recruitment advice and assistance from professional full time coaches. In addition, membership fees, regatta fees and travel expenses to and from events are covered by the scholarships. Many of our scholarship alumni are now studying and rowing at prestigious colleges and universities such as Wesleyan, MIT, Princeton, Fordham, Columbia, and Dartmouth among others. About $1 billion in full and partial athletic scholarships are awarded each year by NCAA colleges to more than 126,000 undergraduate student-athletes at Division I and Division II schools. Our goal is to insure that our children receive a fair chance to compete for these scholarships through rowing.
The first step to being considered for the Row to School Scholarship is for each candidate to fill out and mail in the questionnaire found linked below. We will carefully review each questionnaire and then invite students and their parents to come and meet us for interviews.
