Learn to Row at Overpeck Lake
Over the course of five days athletes between the ages 12-18 will be provided with the opportunity to learn the basics of rowing. Athletes are welcome to sign up for as many sessions as they'd like throughout the summer. The goal is to provide a safe and fun environment where newcomers to the sport can learn more about the basics of rowing.
Participants will learn basic rowing terminology, the proper handling of rowing equipment, safety rules, as well as the fundamentals of the rowing stroke and boat mechanics. The first 90 minutes of each session is spent on land reviewing concepts of physical well-being, including hydration, core strength, flexibility, and diet. The second 90 minutes of each session is spent on the water training. Successful completion of this program is a prerequisite for entry into the novice, intermediate and competitive junior rowing programs.
